Roark Cabin Collection

Title

Roark Cabin Collection

Description

This collection contains 12 images found in the attic and various crawlspaces of a cabin built ca. 1900 on Rock Springs Road in the Bethel Community. The cabin was occupied (and perhaps built) by the Roark family around 1901, and it was purchased in 1980 by Billy Kennedy, Jr. The images were found at various times over the years by Billy Kennedy and his wife, Rebecca Saunders.

Little is known at this time about the individuals portrayed in most of the images, although it is believed that members of the Roark family may be visible in some of the images. One image shows troops from Company B of the 6th US Infantry stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, milling about outside their recently constructed quarters. One of three artillery barracks built between 1901 and 1903, the building in that image appears to be what is known today as Davis Hall (1901).
