She and her husband, Dr. Jack D. Lawrence, had six children: Dr. Beth Lawrence Murray, Susan Lawrence Tumbleston, Martha Lawrence Addison, Sally Lawrence Whitson, Dr. Jack D. Lawrence, Jr., and Jim Lawrence.
Dr. Jack D. Lawrence, Sr. (February 19, 1920-April 7, 2017), was the son of George Monroe Lawrence and Lena Culver Lawrence of Avery County. Dr. Lawrence served in active duty during World War II before settling in Boone. A charter member of the Greenway Baptist Church, Dr. Lawrence also served as president of the North Carolina Baptist Men and as a Watauga County Commissioner, during which time he chaired the county commission. A popular local dentist for 35 years, Dr. Lawrence was also well-known for his love of fox hunting.
