Title

Unknown Soldier Letter, Circa 1962

Subject

American Civil War, Letter, John's Island--South Carolina, Soldier, Confederate Soldier, War

Description

A copy of a typed transcript of a letter written by an unidentified Confederate soldier. The year the letter was written is obscured on the transcript and may be either March 2, 1862 or March 2, 1863. The location the letter was sent from is also unclear, the heading "Camp Thops John I Land South Carolina" may indicate that the soldier was encamped at John's Island, near Charleston. In the letter, the soldier writes to his parents, asking after their health and agreeing to send them cotton cords via another soldier on furlough. The letter primarily consists of requests for well wishes to people in the soldier's hometown. However, the transcript copy cuts off suddenly, leaving the exact contents of the letter unknown.
