Title

Palmer Blair Movie Collection #4: 1949 Watauga Centennial Parade, Part 2

Subject

Palmer Blair, Linney Law Office, West King Street, Boone, 1949 Watauga Centennial Parade,

Description

Reel #4 of the home movies in the Palmer Blair Collection, this reel shows footage of the 1949 Watauga Centennial Parade moving west to east down West King Street in Boone, NC.

At the beginning of the reel, Blair appears to have been standing at a spot in front of his shop in the former Linney Law Office building. The footage is especially noteworthy for its views of the buildings along the south side of West King Street, for which there are few historic images that have been located.

The reel concludes with footage showing Palmer Blair, Jr., in front of the Blair's home on Blowing Rock Rd. (3:17 mark). The house, which was located on a lot opposite the present location of the The Standard student apartments and just south of the present location of Local Lion, no longer stands.
