Title

George Flowers Movie Collection #5: Miss Ashe County Parade, May 4, 1963, Part 2

Subject

Miss Ashe County, Miss Watauga County, Pat Pitman, George Flowers, Parade, West Jefferson

Description

Reel #5 of the films in the George Flowers Collection, this 8mm reel is the second reel of footage of the Miss Ashe County Parade that took place on May 4, 1963. Curiously, Miss Watauga County, Pat Pitman, is visible riding in the parade at the 1:30 mark. Flowers shot this footage from near the northwest corner of the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Main Street. On this reel, the parade moves from north to south along Jefferson Avenue through the town of West Jefferson, and all participants are in the same vehicles wearing the same clothes as Reel #4. This suggests that the parade moved south to north along Jefferson Avenue, turned around, then came back down Jefferson Avenue from north to south. At the 2:06 mark, footage shifts to coverage of the parade participants posing in a local department store.
