Cow Trapped in Debris Field, August 1940

Title

Cow Trapped in Debris Field, August 1940

Subject

Cattle, 1940 Flood, Debris, Paul Weston, George Greene

Description

This troubling image shows a cow that has either been injured or killed after being trapped in the debris field of the August 13, 1940, flood. Two men stand nearby, one of them possibly George Greene, posing for the image. Motion blur near the cow's head and back hips suggests that the cow may still be alive but unable to remove its back legs from the mudflow. Unfortunately, this image has slid within its mounting, leaving a small portion obscured at bottom. This image is paired with Par-Wes-03-067 in its mounting from the scrapbook.
