Description

This color slide shows three men (two of whom appear to be police officers) on horseback during the Wagon Train parade through Boone, North Carolina. The Wagon Train, which traveled over multiple days from Wilkes County to Boone, began as a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of North Carolina in 1963. The event would be held every summer until 1974. Flowers Photo Shop and Burgess Furniture are visible in the background. The businesses were housed in the Hodges Building (left) and the Qualls Block (right), now home to Strand Beads and Jewelry and A Piece of the Past Antiques, respectively. A child can be seen climbing out of the second story window of Burgess Furniture, looking out towards the parade.
