This color image shows a pair of oxen pulling a wagon in the Wagon Train parade in Boone, North Carolina. The Wagon Train, which traveled over multiple days from Wilkes County to Boone, began as a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of North Carolina in 1963. The event would be held every summer until 1974. In the background a watching crowd can be seen, along with the storefront of Burgess Furniture in the Hodges Building (recently home to Strand Jewelry and Beads).
