Description

A commercially made color slide depicting the Craggy Flats Tunnel along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Authorized by the United States Congress in 1936, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway which crosses the Blue Ridge Mountain Range from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The Parkway would not be fully completed until the Lynn Cove Viaduct was built around Grandfather Mountain in Watauga County in 1987. The tunnel pictured is at mile post 365.6, near Black Mountain, North Carolina. An inscription printed on the back of the slide reads: "Craggy Flats Tunnel, Blue Ridge Parkway."
