Town of Boone from the Southwest, April 1939

Title

Town of Boone from the Southwest, April 1939

Subject

Boone, Daniel Boone Hotel, Post Office, Appalachian Theatre, Cy Crumley, Linville River Railway

Description

This print, which is similar to images found online in the Cy Crumley Scrapbook, shows the town of Boone, North Carolina, as seen from the southwest in early April 1939. One key to dating the image is the construction of the Boone US Post Office, at center left. In late April, the Watauga Democrat indicated the front wall was nearly complete, and the presence of some budding trees in the foreground suggests this must be early April. At upper right, the Daniel Boone Hotel and Appalachian Theatre are rather obvious landmarks, while the old Linville River Railway depot building can be seen at center right. Bobby Snead donated this print to the Town of Boone Cultural Resources Department about 2011.
