Photograph of Rock House

Title

Photograph of Rock House

Subject

Rock House, Cove Creek

Description

This early photograph features a view of a large rock outcropping with openings in the rock, possibly one of the Rock House dwellings known to have existed in the Cove Creek and Watauga River areas. Several people are visible perched on a ledge near one of the rock house openings. A split rail fence is visible at the bottom of the outcropping, and a horse team and buggy are visible at extreme right and behind the trees at left center. No obvious means of ascent or descent to the ledge is visible. A note in pencil on the rear of the image reads, "Rock House, June 1894."
