Description

This image depicts a newspaper clipping from the Journal and Sentinel. At the top of the newspaper, "Drama-Outdoor. Horn in the West" is written in pencil and "Horn in the west (Historical drama). N" is written in red pen. Interspersed with the title, "Winston Salem, Journal and Sentinel June, 29 1952" is written in pencil. The clipping is of the article "Watauga Folks Do 'Impossible' With Drama, Show Spirit of Their Forebears in Revolution" by Frances Griffin. The article discusses Horn in the West and its rising popularity. Griffin describes a scene from the play wherein Doctor Stuart is told why people were fighting in the American Revolutionary War and compares the risk of warfare to the risk of building the Daniel Boone Theater. Griffin also describes the people of Boone as "unpretentious" and relates them to their ancestors. Griffins article includes a brief summary of the play and its characters. She lightly criticizes certain aspects of the Horn in the West production but states that it is the perfect play for Boone.
