Description

Three page handwritten letter from J. M. Shive to "Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Mast" (Newton Lafayette Mast and Addie Horton Mast) in Watauga County, North Carolina. The letter is sent with a three cent stamp. It thanks them for their letter and expresses sorrow felt remembering their "long and sad journey home with your dear boy." It goes on to reference Mast as a Loyal Boy and hero, "the Golden Star" is shining for him. It speaks of rumors that the war is over and that "the history of this war will be a great one." It is signed "J. M. Shrive."
