Subject

Stores, Store Clerks, Scales, Boone, Workers Of Boone, Calendars, Charles Hodges, City Meat Market And Grocery

Description

This image shows a male store clerk in an apron standing in front of what appears to be a scale that sits behind a raised counter. A box of Kabnet Wax sits on top of the scale. A calendar is visible in the upper right corner of the image. Glass doors are visible behind the clerk, possibly refrigerators. A "B" sanitation score is visible in the upper left corner of the image. This has been identified as Charles Hodges in the City Meat Market in the Qualls Block on King Street. The City Meat Market was heavily damaged in the 1952 Christmas Day fire. Charles Hodges and Bill Dixon, who had worked at City Meat Market prior to the fire, decided to purchase a grocery in East Boone following the fire, which they renamed as the Black Bear Food Center.
