Description
This picture is a color slide of the 1963 Daniel Boone Wagon Train. On the slide, "King St - Boone" is written in pen. The picture shows the parade as it travels through King Street. There is one onlooker at the top of some stairs next to the Mayflower Beauty Shoppe. The focus of the picture is the Appalachian High School Band playing instruments and marching in the parade. At the front, a student leads the band with a whistle. The band director, George Kirsten, can be identified by his white outfit. Behind the band, there is a car towing a float. Behind the float there is a horse-drawn carriage being driven by Fred Kirby in a bright red cowboy outfit. On a telephone pole there is an advertisement for an auction to be held on July 6th. The members of the band are likely those listed in this newspaper clipping from DigitalNC: https://newspapers.digitalnc.org/lccn/sn82007642/1963-07-04/ed-1/seq-11/#words=band+Boone+Daniel+Train+Wagon
