Description

This was contained in a sleeve labeled, "ASTC Band Formations Home Coming/Half time, 10-22-55." This picture shows the Appalachian State Teachers College marching band on the football field during a 1955 halftime show. This event was a gathering of current and alumni band members to celebrate homecoming. The band is in several formations around the field and is also surrounding the sides. The focus of the picture is a triangle formation with a "U" inside. The band members are in different uniforms based on their positions in the formation. Around the triangle, there are several circles with dancing color guards and majorettes. On the left side, half of a United States flag is made out of ribbons. A very large crowd is on the bleachers watching the show. A few people are also on top of the hills and watching from a higher vantage. A few campus buildings are visible and one has smoke coming from the chimney. The field is surrounded by a chain fence with barbed wire.
