Title

Map Showing Part of W. W. Lenoir's Land and Adjoining Lands #3

Subject

Maps, Walter Waightstill Lenoir (1823-1890), Rivers, Moses Cone Manor, Foscoe, Grandfather Mountain, Watauga River, Blowing Rock, Johns River, Seven Devils, Rough Ridge Overlook

Description

This image shows an 1868 map of W. W. Lenoir's land in Watauga County that ran from Sandy Flats and the Moses Cone Manor house to Foscoe and Grandfather Mountain. It appears to cover the headwaters of the Watauga River and Johns River in portions of present-day Watauga, Avery, and Caldwell Counties, from roughly Hound Ears to Blowing Rock in the east and approximately Seven Devils to Rough Ridge Overlook in the west. Due to the condition of the map, it was digitized off-site rather than with Digital Watauga's resources. This is a similar image to the other two photographs in this collection, though it appears to be slightly more zoomed-in with smaller borders.
